During
IVF procedures, it is extremely important to monitor the
development of the embryos, from the moment of fertilization
through the stage when one to three embryos are selected for
transplantation. The best embryos, or the embryos with the
highest potential of viability, must be selected for
transplantation. Therefore, the clinician must watch every
development stage of the embryos very carefully.
Currently, clinicians have difficulty selecting the “best”
embryo, often choosing at least two or three embryos for
implantation sometimes resulting in costly and risky multiple
births.
EmbryoGuard
is designed to provide IVF clinics improved quality assurance
through enhancing the ability to achieve higher success rates
and to reduce the risk of multiple births through:
-
Automatic on-going time-lapse photography of individual
embryos
-
Real-time microscopic embryo observation inside the
incubator (x400)
-
Documentation including image captures of cleavage timing
-
New opportunities for embryo development research in the lab
-
Complete traceability, documentation and identification of
each embryo
The EmbryoGuard
‘s robotic system is combined with software and
computerized control that assists with embryo evaluation,
supports the selection process of optimal embryos and controls
the matching process, all within the incubator environment.
The unit
is installed inside a standard IVF incubator. It allows
on-line monitoring of the embryos and selection of embryos by
cleavage timing. By employing microscopic cameras inside the
incubator,
EmbryoGuard avoids the need to open the
incubator for periodic check-up, exposing the embryos to
different environmental conditions (different temperature,
humidity, etc.).
One of
the most important features of
EmbryoGuard is the active matching management
tool, which identifies oocytes and embryos within the
incubator and assures proper matching of the samples with the
proper recipient. All activities during the IVF process are
monitored by the
EmbryoGuard software and controlled by the
specially designed barcode labels.
